What Kevin Taylor has done with the concept of lying is remarkable. He has found a way to make such a difficult subject relatable and non-intimidating so that children will be open to discussing their own experience with being dishonest and learn simply not to do it. Yes, this book is meant to be a conversation starter between parents and children about the inside world of lying and it sets a strong foundation for just that. I am a psychologist who is challenged with helping people address these, and other complex issues, that they are typically not easily willing to be transparent about. I know first hand how difficult it can be to have a genuine and non-defensive conversation about these issues because people are afraid of being judged and seen as “a bad person” because of what they struggle with. This book makes it easy to begin a conversation with children about what lying looks like, the effects that lying has on the liar and the person being lied to, and how to engage in healthy communication that does not include lying, no matter how difficult the truth is. Because of the book’s clever use of a “lion concept,” which every child is sure to love, and its honest approach to examining dishonesty this is surely a book that I would utilize in my therapeutic work, would recommend as a tool for parents of my young clients, and suggest for every child to read. This book is approved by: Dr. Natalie M. Whitlow, Ph.D., Licensed Psychologist
